Hello All!
I am curious to know how you store and organize your beading supplies. My collection is growing day by day because i am addicted to buying beads and i am finding it harder to stay organize and locate the stuff i need.
At the moment i store all my small beads in zip lock bags. I label the top of my zip lock bags and sit them upright in take away containers. This containers are then stacked on top of each other and organized by bead type. I now have stacks of take away container stacked everywhere in my room. Also i keep knocking them over as they are stacked pretty high. My room now looks like the storage room of a take away food store.
I was also wondering if anyone organizes their supplies by colour and if it is easier to match things that way? I find that i look for beads by colour more often than by type.

Heya I have big rectangular containers that I bought from Crazy Clarks about a year or so ago. I love them, but haven`t been able to find them again!!
I sort everything by colour. Its easier to find things that way, and also helps with colour matching.

Hi there,
I have the same problem. I can never stay organize and i have stacks of containers everywhere. I use the small take away round containers (normally used to put sauces). I find them to be the perfect size for most of the beads i store and they are quite easy to open and close.
To give you an idea of what i mean, here`s a little peek at my beading table.

As you can see it is fairly messy and my containers are stacked way too high. I am always worried that i will tip over something and everything will come crashing down.

| I actually don`t have that many beads. I buy only what I need as I go. I keep left overs from what I buy in bulk in small zip lock baggies that I then sort into 3 small plastic boxes that I got at Michaels.

Oooooh, I have so many beads. I keep them neatly stored in organizer boxes, the kind used to store nails and screws. I separated them by type (Czech glass, freshwater pearls, Swarovskis, seed beads, semiprecious, etc) and sometimes by color.

I also use little screw-top jars and small boxes. I`m always searching for new containers for the tons and tons of beads I keep purchasing!
You can see which beads are which here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/pavoreal/169964653/

It`s really interesting to see and hear how some of you organize your beads.
AmyDorothy I`ve checked crazy clarks and they don`t seem to have anything big with multiple compartments. They only have small ones.
PaintedFire I should really get into the habit of buying only when i need. But everytime i see something pretty i can`t help it.
JanJ Wow..those containers are stacked pretty high. I hope there isn`t any strong winds in your area
Pavoreal Wow..you have everything organized really nicely. I need to get those containers where you can put a lot of tiny things into several compartments. You can really save a lot of space with those.

Hi all,
My beads are in the same kind of containers as JanJ...
I buy them in bulk from my local wholesaler and they are soooooo easy to stack.
I lable each one with the product code and the price of each bead and that way it is easy to keep Craft Memo updated as I use things.
I have a 6 foot by 4 foot bookcase that is then used to stack all my beads on.
I keep my Swarovski`s in Zip lock bags though. Each is labled by code and colour and pinned onto a cork board and it sits right behind me for easy access.

| Multi sectioned large boxes, should be able to be found at hardware stores, fishing stores, department stores like, big W, K-mart, or for the states Walmart - fishing tackle section - they are sometimes referred to as tackle boxes for putting fishing flies into. Most of the discount stores like $2 shops etc carry boxes like this. If you can keep it that way (I can`t) storage by colour is great... but for me, it`s whatever boxes I could find at the time I needed some, and each box is a multicoloured concoction... have fun with it whatever way you choose to organise!

Boy, and I thought I had a lot of beads but after looking at these pictures I feel like a pauper.
I use the standard hardware storage box with the little pull out drawers for nuts and bolts. Also I use leftover pill bottles. I also have a small cart with pull out drawers. In these drawers I have tubes, round plastic containers and all my findings in plastic bags.

I buy storage boxes with multiple compartments from Bunnings in whatever size i need. The ones i get are basically like the ones second from the bottom in the picture Pavoreal posted above. Easy to stack, and if you have tiny beads that do not require a full section you can put many mini zip-lock bags of beads in one section. All stacked on a deep bookshelf, of course.

Hi, this is my first post. It`s great to see how you all store, but I find my drawers and bottles best for me. They came from KMart & Crazy Prices - some of them with screws, nails etc already in them (for my husband).
Within the varieties, I use little zip lock bags for subcategories. Very regimented, I know, but fabulous when looking for doubles to make that perfect piece. Moconna jars are great and look good, too.

| I have rings to store rather than beads but I store them in drawer systems much like those used in garages to store nuts and bolts. I also would like to take a photo and show it. Jan, can I do this through photobucket ?

Hi Annie and casjsa,
I`m currently working on adding an upload image section to the forums. In the meantime, you can link to attach to an image online using the tag [img].
So sorry for the inconvinience.

Wow... people here have A LOT of beads!
I don`t have nearly as many (been only collecting about a month now <3 ). As of now I store them in little zip lock bagies and put them in a storage bin beneath my bed ^^;
But I have a feeling it won`t take long for me to accumulate more. I work two shops down from the craft store... and I keep going there on my break to buy stuff XD

I have nearly completed putting all my beads into Craft Memo and all I can say is hide it from the hubby
I have at this point $740 worth of beads and findings.
Now I know for some this isn`t a lot, but I look at it all and think, "huh? where is it all?". I guess it is all the little things that add up.

| If I had a wall unit/shelving - and space that was all my own it`d be full I swear! But so far I`ve just used these small organized bins meant for thread or beads. They seem to work quite well and certainly easy to move around!

| I have more wire to store than beads, but use the multi-section compartments for seed beads - as well as being used for tackle boxes, you might find them for cotton floss (for cross stitch etc) in Spotlight and Red Dot stores usually have the jars that screw to each other fairly cheap. I keep all my boxes in a scrapbooking tote box on wheels and will probably be transferring the wires and some of my books to a wheeled bag/backpack - it makes it easier to move sets of materials around the house that way. And I use a stable table to work on while watching tv - they also have a rim that comes in handy for catching anything before it rolls off the table.

The Home Jewelry Business
http://www.home-jewelry-business-success-tips.com/index.html The Home Jewelry BusinessSuccess Resource posted a jewelry making tip I submitted. That was mighty nice of them!
June 29, 2006 Beads, beads everywhere - and I can`t find a one! Szarka from Turquoise Magpie sent in a great, easy bead organizing tip:
I discovered a great way to organize my beads and have them where I can see them. I purchased a bag of metal shower curtain hooks from the local hardware store and I hung strands of beads on them. I place all the similar colored strands on one hook. All the blues together. All the yellows together.
Then I nailed some finishing nails into the side of my work bench and I hung them all there. I also have a book shelf in front of my bench and I did the same. Now when I am making a piece of jewelry I can see what colors and shapes I have while I am in the design stages.
I cut the strand open, take off the number of beads I need, and tie it up again or use a crimp bead to close it up so I can hang it right back onto the hook.
No more digging through bead boxes. Well I still have those for beads that are not strung so I labelled those clearly with what is inside.
My jewelry making is much happier now!

Hi to all of you, Im newbie here, so I need to know how can I put my pictures and make comments basically. Thanks.

wow, yall are all so organised.
i`m all messy.
i don`t actually have a specific place in the house that is mine to craft in, so i have everything in tote containers from craft and hobby stores. they kinda suck for what i wanna do. the only up side is that i can carry them around easily.

|
|
| i used to store my beads in small zip loxk baggies but found that i lost interest in the beads when the bag got all shabby and worn. so then i started to restring the beads and post nails up on the wall to hang them by color. kinda like that bead shop with hanks. atleast i can now see what i have and what i need to buy. cause i am on a tight budget now and its nice to know that i wont need to buy unneccessary beads. but i do LOVE all beads!!! i store all my metal findings in top opening craft containers so i can see what they are before opeining the box. hope this helps!

WOW! The pictures of all your beads make mine look so tiny! I`m jealous! I showed my husband just to prove to him that my "bead buying habit" isn`t the be all end all...LOL!

I know this thread is older but I wanted to share mine.
I store all my beads in a size appropriate clear, zip lock bags. From jewelry size to gallon freezer bags.
Then each color category goes in a small, clear, labeled plastic storage container. All reds go in the container for reds, all blues go in the conainer for blues..etc.
It save space and makes it easy for me find what I want when doing color coordinated projects.
I also line them up according to size with cardboard spacers in them.
When my baggie gets shabby, I get a new one. This method takes up so much less space than anything I have ever used before in all these many years.

Hello to all...
I store all my beads separate by color and kind in clear lock bags. I keep them in plastic clear drawers from which comes to save spaces. One drawer for silver, other for my pliers, other for crystals... and olso I use CD case for the seeds.
