I`ve been browsing indie online shops for months trying to find stores that will host my jewellery for a little extra cash. So far in the first two months of being in a couple stores I have not sold anything...
I`ve been thinking about having my own store like these where fellow artists can have their work up to sell but I`m wondering how well these shops do? Do people even buy online?
Thoughts anyone?
I meant this not to be advertising for etsy - there is already a thread for that... I mean actual indie boutiques that sell a select number of varied artists.

| speaking from expierience, not overly well. I basically use my online shop as a catalogue. i get mny sles from it, but only once I have lured people in through other means.

| People do buy online. Amazon and eBay wouldn`t stay around if people didn`t. I`m not sure how well handcrafted items sell online without a well-recognized name. I`m having a hard time getting myself noticed.

Having a website means lots of work to get your search engine ratings up there. Study lots of key words and submit to lots of free ads. You can not realistically expect to make more than an occasional sale for the first year or a little longer.
We hosted other artists in our snail mail catalogue with great success. We are willing to do that with our website too and we will..... when we get our ratings up. It wouldn`t be fair to invite or accept an artist before we have good search ratings.
I spend as much and more time on the computer submitting free ads as I do creating anything else.
But you can do it and I encourage you! Just be prepared to make it a labor of love with a lot of patience.
Blessings, Snow

I figure as of late I spend 20% designing 60% marketing 15% creating 5% closing sales

check out etsy.com, it is like ebay for crafters! I have a shop at http://sweetyprize.etsy.com and it is a lot of fun for me and i`ve sold my items, too ;-) I just listed some mini envelopes, they are big sellers ...

| I came here from etsy, and I must add that it`s also a great place to see how other crafters market themselves. There are a lot of very inspirational successes there!

I`m selling my work really well on etsy too and have many repeat customers! http://faffcreations.etsy.com
Also as for online sales... I for one only shop online... so I think online is def. the way to shop!

I also sell on etsy and have sold 21 items in under a month. I also have been a long time seller on eBay too but etsy is cheaper to sell on.

| I also sell on Etsy and I love it. The rates are very inexpensive and if you work at promoting yourself the buyers are out there. I have been very happy with Etsy. I would recommend you check it out. http://stufffromthebunker.etsy.com
