Don`t go the pop-up route or I will officially have to stop visiting!!! Haha even pop-up blockers don`t catch them all. But google`s ads I do not mind so much as long as they are at the top or bottom of the pages instead of in amongst everything (I always find it hard to find what I`m looking for and end up accidentally clicking on google stuff)...
I wouldn`t mind paying a couple bucks a month to have my own rotating banner on the site (one of those small button type ones) ... maybe other users would do the same - really cheap like $1/$2 per month which if everyone did would certainly help the costs.

| Ads aren`t a problem. I`m so used to seeing them on sites, that it doesn`t faze me. I am however, not much in favor of paid subscriptions. If that were the only option available for posting to the site, I would drop out. Being on a fixed income doesn`t allow me many luxuries. And this would be a luxury. I do hope you find a cost effective solution. This is a wonderful site, and it would be a shame to lose it.

Hello everyone,
Thank you all for your feedback. I`ve just added the advertising option to DesignsToLove. As you can see there are now image banner ads on the top of each page. If you would like to place your ad there, you can make place an online booking here :
http://www.designstolove.com/advertise.aspx
There will certainly be no popup ads on DesignsToLove. This is probarly as far as i will go in terms of putting ads on DesignsToLove.
DesignsToLove will always remain free to everyone. Any premium option offered will be optional.
Thank you all for your continuous support towards DesignsToLove.

Jan, Haven`t been in to the site for a couple of weeks, so this is news to me. However, have no problem with ads or some sort of subscription.
This is a great site, and I love getting feed-back on my designs. Thanks for getting it up and running!

Ads are fine with me. The only thing that will turn me off and keep me away are the pop up ads. They get in the way and seem to pop up when you are in the middle of doing something. Ads are a way of life these days, and no one can stay in business without them. Sherome

Hi Jan I`m coming in a bit late on this - but a bit more to help keep costs down, most people probably already have a lot of their photos on one or more of the free photo hosting accounts around, so maybe encouraging people to use linked images from those sites rather than uploading all photos here? It would cut down on storage space needed and bandwidth to show them? (the photo hosting site would then be providing the bandwidth instead) Some of the photo hosting providers even provide the code on each photo page to copy and paste into forums, complete with img tags, so it`d be easy for pretty much everyone to handle. I`m just not sure how a design gallery would work with links though - unless there is some way to include an option in the "add design" section to enter a link instead of uploading a pic.

Hi Jan,
I was just wondering for those of us who have got ads, do we get some kind of notification to say that the expiry time is drawing near or will our ad just disappear.
I would like to be advised as then I ca redo the ad

I have only just found this site today because of my signing up for craftmemo. I already love the site. I am an IT professional who has only a few minutes to enjoy my craft and very little money to put towards it so this free site is what I need. I wanted to let you know that in the IT world we have many such websites where the "community" continues to support and encourage others. One that I belong to has just started a donation ability. I think this might work here along with your member ads. There are many times that months go by without having the ability to even look at my craft so paying for a premium account feels foolish, but many a time if I find and idea or support I would gladly donate a lump sum all at once.
Just a suggestion

Please don`t allow flashing or popups. Those are turnoffs for me!
If you have around 1,000 sign ups, you may want to consider allowing them to pay for ads. After all, who benefits most?
I would hate to see a lot of ads and would be more interested in paying an annual fee or small listing fee. Since we don`t actually sell here (I am new, but did not see that option so far) you are not necessarily going to get into that business.
Let the members have a say, but the bottom line belongs to you. If we want a place to share our items, we need to be respectful of your funding.
My vote is to have the members pay an annual fee and keep the advertisers at bay. If we are in a business, no matter how small, we have overhead, that is life.
Thanks for allowing input, you are being an excellent provider. Pat

This is a wonderful site. I don`t mind ads if it helps you to run and maintain the site.
The only thing to check is how addition of the ads unfluences the traffic. Visitors might object.

Jan, How about having a Paypal donate button somewhere visible on the site, that way people can donate funds? Even $5 here and there from members will go a long way.
