Digital Scrapbooking anyone? (8 posts) - Posted On : 22 Jan 2007 06:16 AM Edit Post | Report Spam
yeah adobe can be tricky...even online tutorials seem to use a lot of jargon... i just started using step by step guides to techniques in a scrapbooking magazine i subscribe to, and a bit of trial and error ... and I feel like im achieving something!

was just catching up on where everyone is from. I also thought I had posted on this forum previously (do entries get wiped after a certain time?). Anyway, I`m from Sydney Australia. Hi to everyone out there
Some good and bad news (40 posts) - Posted On : 31 Oct 2006 03:37 AM Edit Post | Report Spam
I think everyone who has joined has been impressed by the site. It gives us a chance for feedback, it allows us to build up our businesses and provides an avenue where we can ssek answers to our questions. Therefore, I dont think anyone would mind craft related ads as a necessary part of it`s upkeep... I was wondering how you were managing to carry the site all on your own Jan!

Further, I think a donations button is a great idea. I think many would be reluctant to maintain membership if there was a compulsory subscription fee (for the reasons mentioned by bstoopman above).

And the idea to limit pics members can upload (provided it`s reasonable) is an idea worth thinking about...otherwise people (like me) can become lazy and just leave old stuff on there!

How did you get started? (5 posts) - Posted On : 23 Oct 2006 06:05 PM Edit Post | Report Spam
Hi

I don`t know how many scrapbooking shops there are in Canada, but here in Australia there are heaps! If you want to get started with cardmaking and have absoltuely no idea about cardstock, adhesives, scoring (folding) etc then I would suggest going to a scrapbook shop. Many of them run inexpensive cardmaking tutorials (especially with xmas just around the corner) and then you have the added bonus of being able to buy your supplies there as well...

However, a word of warning, sometimes scrapbooking shops can be overpriced... here in Australia, a lot of general stores and what we term "junk shops" have started stocking acid free scrapbooking embellishments etc so make sure you shop around...you never know what you might find! For instance, I buy a lot of my ribbon very cheaply from these "junk shops" and it`s excellent quality.

Hope this helps! Good luck, and make sure you post some of your work once done!

Newly Added/Favourite Designs (4 posts) - Posted On : 22 Oct 2006 06:43 PM Edit Post | Report Spam
That sounds great...hope it`s not too much work!

Great suggestion from snow as well - we should all make the effort to visit categories different from our own hobbies and leave comments. I personally love seeing what others have created!

How many of You Cross-stitch? (11 posts) - Posted On : 22 Oct 2006 07:09 AM Edit Post | Report Spam
I have cross-stitched in past - but not for ages now! I particularly like counted cross-stitch... I found a very small country inspired design that I liked and then painstakingly enlarged the pattern so I could make a large counted cross-stitch for my kitchen. It`s not perfect but I`m very proud of the effort.

Hi,

In regards to the Newly Added Designs and Recent Favorite Designs that appear on homepage, I was just wondering whether it might be possible to have these categorised as well?

That is, have newly added designs from each category on the site`s home page... at the moment because most designs are coming from the jewellery and beading category, we don`t often get to see other designs on that home page - and thus our attention isn`t drawn to categories that we might not normally visit...

What do others think about this?
Help needed with applying lace to paper!!!!! (8 posts) - Posted On : 10 Oct 2006 08:36 AM Edit Post | Report Spam
Hi

Thanks for all your advice! The problem was the way the lace was shaped - it made it difficult to hide even clear double-sided tape...

However, my friend found a really good craft glue that worked.

Again, thanks for all your suggestions

I only found out about etsy when TenJewel mentioned it in "Business or pleasure or both?" post. I`ve checked it out quickly and it looks very interesting.

Can you guys shed some more light on it and how it works? Are any of you members Australian?

How do people from different countries list their products? That is, I assume prices listed are in American dollars. Do we have to work out the conversion? And what about postage?

How successful is it as a selling market?

By the way, I`m loving the DesignsToLove site - it`s great for gathering advice and feedback!

Business or pleasure or both? (23 posts) - Posted On : 18 Sep 2006 11:15 PM Edit Post | Report Spam
That was great! Thanks heaps! Some of the stuff I already do... some I need encouragement with! It`s the self-promotion that holds me back... I need more confidence in myself and the product. After all, people are already paying for it and i suppose they wouldnt be if it was crap!

I`ll make an effort to promote myself! I promise!

Ill let u know how i go!

Help needed with applying lace to paper!!!!! (8 posts) - Posted On : 18 Sep 2006 11:01 PM Edit Post | Report Spam
Hi

A friend of mine is making her wedding invites and is having trouble applying lace to the paper/cardstock. A spray on glue leaves a sticky residue and the craft glue she tried is a bit oily. It is not an intricate lace so she cant use double sided tape.

Just wondering if anyone has suggestions as to what she could use??

Thanks

You should post some of your stuff in the gallery. I`m sure your work is great! I always look at my stuff and think it`s crap compared to other peoples, but I have still managed to sell it to a number of people. At the moment, it`s mainly friends and family who are placing orders - I haven`t really advertised anywhere... When somebody needs guestbooks or a canvas to give as a gift or a bunch of cards, they can order from me.

The problem with paper craft is that I`m always buying stuff so my expenses always outweigh my profit

That`s why I`m interested to know what other people out there are doing...

Just wondering how many people have actually chosen to make a business out of their craft passions? If people are in business, which country are you located in and what tips do you have?
What is your favorite idea source? (10 posts) - Posted On : 16 Sep 2006 12:04 AM Edit Post | Report Spam
I`m inspired by great photos. I also love Scrapbooking Memories magazine. It has great ideas, particularly for off-the-page projects. It also has a great section on digital scrapbooking with step-by-step instructions.

Hi again JanJ,

Oh, I didn`t know you were associated with Bead Charm... I`ve bought Swarovski flatback crystals from that site to use on my greeting cards... They are great quality and really set the cards apart from others that have used cheaper crystals!
You certainly sound like a busy lady! Keep up the great work!
