New goodies you recently acquired? (37 posts) - Posted On : 26 Sep 2006 07:36 PM Edit Post | Report Spam
$12 for a laser printer..wow..thats a nice bargain. I have one of those old monster size laser printers at work that sounds like a steam train when it prints.

The only problem with old laser printers is the catridge cost a fortune thats if you can still find them.

If i am not mistaked, the term Mujahideen means `holy warrior` in Arabic.

Hosting Jewellery Parties (16 posts) - Posted On : 26 Sep 2006 09:49 AM Edit Post | Report Spam
I`ve never personally hosted a jewellery party before but have helped a few friends with theirs. The parties were normally held once every 3 month on Fridays after work in our office. We didn`t have much decorations besides a couple of balloons and flowers. The main thing would be to have nice jewellery displays to showcase your jewellery.

Unfortunately we don`t have good looking waiters to help us with the drinks and food. Food and drinks were self service

Sales from parties are pretty inconsistent. You have some parties that do really really well and some that don`t. Just remember to always have your business cards handy as jewellery parties normally generatse a lot of after party sales.

Best of luck with your party and do let us know how you go. Do you roughly know how many people will attending? Also are you the only designer showcasing your designs in this party?

Here is Bernadine`s original post :

Thanks Jan appreciate that.

Actually no, this will be my first one go at hosting one, so have been busy planning it, I still have a few weeks yet before D-Day. If sales go well, then I plan to do more of them in my own home say 4 times a year.

In order to get good attendance, I`ve asked friends to bring at least two of their friends.

Mind you there`s the catering, name tags for guests to get to know one another, displays to be set up, pricing on all items to be done, lucky door prizes to be selected from stock. I have sewn black fabric table-cloths for the display area`s and even printed Black T-Shirts for the two good looking guys I`ve roped into looking after drinks for the afternoon - (now if that doesn`t get some sales don`t know what will)

I`d really love to hear from others about their experiences (both good and bad) at hosting jewellery parties.

Thanks again,
Bernadine

Lol..sorry bout that kukku. I couldn`t find any small male icons that matched the ones i already had. I have added a checkbox for your custom avatar so you don`t have to reupload everytime you update your profile.

Thanks for reporting the error.

There was a problem initially with members profile updating certain posts. This was fixed straight away and it is no longer a problem.

Helloooo Yatsu and welcome to DesignsToLove. I noticed that you really like making books

Do you buy an existing book and redo the cover or do you make the books entirely from scratch?

Hey Joy!!

Welcome to DesignsToLove. Your beaded dolls are stunning and really unique. How long does it normally take to make one? Do you glue the seed beads one at a time?

Well done Butterfly Blue!

It is indeed an Echidna

This is a million dollar shot. I wonder how they got them to sleep that way.

Need to cut down on coffee... (8 posts) - Posted On : 19 Sep 2006 09:40 AM Edit Post | Report Spam
OK! This is what i got from my local grocery store. They are all Liptons because they were the cheapest

The fruit teas smelled really good when you brew them but almost made me sick when i had them. They tasted strange and a little bit like cough mixture.

The green tea with lime was the best. I`ll give it 4 out of 5.

I saw some Chai while shopping. I was told it has a herbal taste? I might try it next week.

Photographing designs (20 posts) - Posted On : 18 Sep 2006 09:56 PM Edit Post | Report Spam
I do the same thing as lynn. I use a strong white light source and filter it with tracing paper. I`ve also read somewhere you can use semi transparent milk bottle to filter the light. If you take jewelry pictures often, it would be good to invest in a light box or light tent.

Outdoor shots and natural props can also be used to enhance your photos. A good example would be :

Just make sure it doesn`t take the lime light from your jewelry. Same goes with the background. Use a colour that is not too striking.

Hi Candace,

I was looking at all the wrong places

Thank you for taking the time to explain in more detail the source of the error.

Both errors have been fixed. Please let me know if you run into any more problems.

I hope you don`t mind me removing the error screenshots.

Hahaha...this is so strange Candace, but i can`t seem to reproduce the error or maybe i am looking in the wrong place. Is this the link that generates the error?

Everything is working ok for me. Is anybody else having the same problems?
What do you do? (26 posts) - Posted On : 18 Sep 2006 08:58 AM Edit Post | Report Spam
Some of you might have read my thread

`Finding job satisfaction at work`

Anyway i am curious to know what everyone does with their day? Do you enjoy doing what you do? Do you find pleasure and satisfaction with the work you do or are you constantly staring at the clock praying for it to tick a little faster.

Me..i am a software engineer in a small company doing mainly websites and web applications. I kinda enjoy the work i do but lately have been really unmotivated. The one thing i have going with my job is that i am given a lot of freedom to learn and experiment. I also run a bead business part time. So from 9-5 i am a software engineer, 8-11 i pack beads and during my free time i work on DesignsToLove.

Howbout you?

I`ve never seen any bead that look like that Lynn. Although i think i`ve seen something like that in dads old fishing tackle box

If you had 2, you could make a pair of fishy earrings
