I am excited to announce that my business partner Caleb has just launched a new shopping cart service called BlinkCart.

http://www.blinkcart.com

BlinkCart is an online service that enables you to easily add a shopping cart feature into anywhere that supports html links or javascript code. e.g. your websites, blogs, emails, DesignsToLove, MySpace, MSN (the list goes on).

We have also added support for BlinkCart to DesignsToLove. What this means is you can now turn your DesignsToLove gallery into your online store.

Example :
http://designstolove.com/design/4/9/cherry_blossom_necklace.aspx
(Click the `Add To Cart` button to view the shopping cart)

How To Integrate BlinkCart with DesignsToLove :

1. Sign up for a FREE BlinkCart Trial Account (upgrade / cancel anytime)
2. Setup your shopping cart (logo, payment methods, shipping, tax etc)
3. Add the product(s) you wish to sell
4. Copy & paste the `Add To Cart` button code into your design description

BlinkCart is not limited to DesignsToLove and can pretty much be integrated into anywhere that supports adding html links.

If you have any feedback, questions or suggestions regarding BlinkCart, feel free to contact Caleb at : http://www.blinkcart.com/contactus.aspx

Warmest Regards,

Jan & DesignsToLove

Hi All,

Over the pass few weeks, I`ve received numerious request from members asking for an option for them to sell their craft works on the site.

I`ve been giving this a little bit of thought and i think it`s a good alternative to premium accounts. Here is what i have in mind :

A special seller account for members who wish to turn their gallery into an online store. A seller is given 25 slots where they can set their designs to be up for sale. Items that are up for sale will have a buy now button and will have a checkout feature. Alternatively for those who already have their own shopping cart option, the buy now button can be set to a link on their website.

There will be no listing fees (you can add, change, delete your listings as you choose) and no commision taken from your sale. Instead a small monthly fee of ($10-$15) for hosting and providing the service.

Please let me know your thoughts and if you would be interested in such a feature.

Hello everyone,

Thank you all for your feedback. I`ve just added the advertising option to DesignsToLove. As you can see there are now image banner ads on the top of each page. If you would like to place your ad there, you can make place an online booking here :

http://www.designstolove.com/advertise.aspx

There will certainly be no popup ads on DesignsToLove.
This is probarly as far as i will go in terms of putting ads on DesignsToLove.

DesignsToLove will always remain free to everyone. Any premium option offered will be optional.

Thank you all for your continuous support towards DesignsToLove.

Thank you all for the encouraging feedback.

I really like maxmum`s idea too. I am more comfortable with the idea of providing a paid service that mutually benefits both parties instead of having donations. I also much prefer helping advertise/promote our members products instead of random companies via Google Ads. (i`ve seen some weird ones popping up). That is why i have decided to remove the Google Ads and hopefully come up with a custom Ad system that would benefit our members.

Thank you once again to all for your wonderful support! It is such a great thing to have people who are passionate about the site and so willing to help out.

I have so many things i want to do with DesignsToLove but can`t because i`m just swamped with work and running BeadCharm plus Christmas is just around the corner.

I will try to draft the ad system out this weekend and also write down what plans i have for DesignsToLove.

Also just to get some feedback :

Should we go with image ads?
How much is a fair monthly rate?
I know that this generally comes down to traffic. DesignsToLove has only been up for 1 month so there`s not much traffic info to go by. However during the 1st month online (Oct), it has already done 213,163 views.

Looking forward to hearing what you think and any other ideas you might have.

Thank you all for your honest feedback.

There will certainly be no sneaky/flashing/popup ads. I too am not a big fan of ads but it seems like the best way to keep the site running without asking people directly for money. So far i have only considered text ads which are the least intrusive and does not really steal the attention away from the actual content.

The only experience i have with text ads are with google adsense. How it works is it takes the content of the page and shows relevant text ads relating to the content of the page. For example a page with beading content will display ads for beading suppliers. This ads can sometimes be fairly helpful and I have actually found some great bead suppliers out of them

The only downside is that based on my experience, they pay fairly low rates (ranges from 0.01 cent to 0.20 perclick). I might try this option to start of with and see how it goes. Please let me know if any of you have had any experience with Google Adsense.

Having the option of a premium account as suggested by KnitErrant is a pretty good idea. However DesignsToLove will always remain free for everyone. Premium accounts would be optional and will probarly allow special access to certain functionalities not available to free accounts such as no ads, the option of uploading a banner in their gallery etc. It needs to be a substantial offering as it would be unfair to offer a paid account for pretty much the same features as a normal account. Also how much is a fair price and how much would people be willing to pay for such a service?

I am truly honoured and thankful that you offered to donate towards the upkeep of the site. However this would just pass the burden from me to you and it would probarly not be feasible in the long run.

Let me know what you thoughts
Some good and bad news (40 posts) - Posted On : 30 Oct 2006 03:58 AM Edit Post | Report Spam
Hi All.

Firstly i would like to thank everybody for making DesignsToLove what it is today. DesignsToLove has grown beyond my wildest expectations.

Over the pass month, we have received more than 250000 visits from all around the world. We now have a membership of
810 members who have posted a total of 2307 craft designs.

This is the good news. The bad news is, all this traffic and bandwidth is taking a toll on my servers.
At the moment, the hosting cost of DesignsToLove comes out from my own pocket. This is fine in the short term but would probably be too costly in the long run.

I have thought of implementing text ads relevant to craft into the website in order to support the operational cost of DesignsToLove. However before i decide, i would first like to hear your thoughts on this matter. Afterall, DesignsToLove would be nothing without the contribution and support of our members. If you have any ideas or suggestions, please feel free to post them here.
Fav semi precious stones (9 posts) - Posted On : 22 Oct 2006 11:20 AM Edit Post | Report Spam
Thank you all for your feedback.

We have just placed a small order for a few faceted gemstones in the following shapes/sizes :

faceted oval 15x18mm
faceted rectangle 12x16mm
faceted briolette drop 10x10mm

Hopefully they will arrive before Christmas (fingers crossed). We actually wanted to get larger sized beads but this was the biggest they could do. Will post some pics when we get them.

They will most likely be sold by per piece.

After the new year, we will try to bring in more nugget and round semi precious stones.

Newly Added/Favourite Designs (4 posts) - Posted On : 22 Oct 2006 10:57 AM Edit Post | Report Spam
Yes. I do agree that the jewelry/beading designs has taken over everything else

At the moment you can categorized the newly added/recent fav by clicking `View More` and selecting the category you wish to view.

I will be adding a fav | new link next to each category to allow people to find new and fav designs more easily for each category.

Our shipment of new Swarovski goodies has just arrived. Been rushing to get them up on the website. (i`ve attached a little photo appetizer below) Seems like Christmas has come early for me

The new vintage rose colour is lovely. It`s a mix between peach and light rose. It looks nothing like the promo shot from Swarovski though. I am a little disapointed with Crystal Moonlight as it is pretty much the same with Crystal with a tiny bit of AB effect. The starfish pendants are beautiful and we are trying to get more colours in.

It`s a good thing you can tax deduct beading expenses

Bstoop
Do you also run a bead store?

Lynn
We might try to find some resin suppliers and bring some in.
