Purse - Upcycled Wicker Caning Over the Shoulder Purse wtih Vintage Button Closure

This is a fun and stylish purse with a black and gold vintage button closure. It was one of those inventions that came out of necessity, and wanting to use what I have.

I had bought some wicker caning to cover up some cabinet doors at home a long time ago (which you can see a picture of), and, as usual, I decided to save the remnants thinking I had to do something with them some day. Finally I saw some wicker purses at a store and they inspired me to make a purse out of what I had.

The edges have been bound with a very sturdy and flexible seam binding that was rescued from someone who was getting rid of extra sewing supplies, and the sides (and inside side panels) have been covered in a fabric sample that I had gotten a long time ago. The color of the caning has been left in its natural state, and the inside has been trimmed with a brown ribbon with a fun French phrase, and vintage buttons.

The strap is made out of a beaded braid that was originally meant as a drapery hold back. The purse can be used with the strap or it can be removed and the purse becomes a clutch.
